This is Part II of Julia Eve Preston and Kirby Crider’s wedding at the Highland Lake Inn in Hendersonville, NC on September 10, 2011.  You can view Part I here.  They chose the Highland Lake Inn because they wanted an outdoor ceremony near a body of water but according to Julia, “preferred to have the reception inside in case of rain.  The Highland Lake Inn was perfect in these respects, and very close to the towns where we both grew up (Celo and Bryson City).  ”

Again, I  loved shooting this wedding…a sweet and beautiful couple, great families, and absolutely gorgeous day at the Highland Lake Inn.  Plus you have to love a wedding where the bride plays drums with the band!  Congratulations Julia and Kirby and rock on!

I’m excited to share this beautiful wedding that I captured for Julia Eve Preston and Kirby Crider at the Highland Lake Inn, in Hendersonville, NC on September  10, 2011.   Julia (an attorney) and Kirby (training specialist) met an UNC Chapel Hill and now live and work in Washington, D.C.  They found out about me through Julia’s uncle, Jeff Muller.  I used to work with Jeff when he was marketing director at The City of Asheville and I provided public relations and advertising photography for them.  We always enjoyed working with one another and he now works for the World Wildlife Fund in Washington, D.C.  After passing my name along to Julia I received a call from her stepfather, Jeff Goodman, who is a professor of photography at Appalachian State.  Fortunately for me I had a successful interview with Jeff  which allowed me to capture these images of a truly beautiful couple who clearly love one another and whose family and friends were a pleasure to document and get to know.

This is Part I of II.  I’ll post Part II soon!

Enjoy the images!

This is the final part of Chailee and William’s beautiful wedding at The Country Club of Asheville on August 13, 2011.  This was such a fun reception to photograph with plenty of laughter, singing, and dancing.  The hora is always one of my favorite wedding events to capture.  The energy it brings out is amazing and I love how it gets everyone, regardless of age, out on the dance floor in celebration.  As you can tell from the expressions on everyone’s faces a good time was had by all!  Special thanks to Common Saints for providing the outstanding music for the reception!  Congratulations again to Chailee and William!

And to reiterate from the previous two posts:

Special thanks to Pam Ball (The Country Club of Asheville); Rochelle Reich; Rabbi Ari Margolis; Pastor Debra Gaddy; Blossoms at Biltmore Park for their floral arrangements, bouquets, and table settings; cake maker Kim Aasland of the Country Club of Asheville; DJ/Band: Common Saints; wedding ceremony musicians (Jason Posnock, Dilshad Posnock, and Eric Schneider); Chailee and Rendi Mann-Stadt (who put a lot of effort into planning this wedding and entrusted me to capture Chailee and William’s wedding day!).  As always it takes a truly collaborative effort to pull off great wedding!

This is Part II of Chailee and William’s wedding at The Country Club of Asheville on August 13, 2011.  Chailee wore a robe during the ketubah signing so that William did not see her dress until the moment she walked through the door during the ceremony.  I used my 50mm f1.0 lens (at f1.0) for much of the signing and this lens does such a great job of lending a really dreamy look to the images.  Blossoms at Biltmore Park did all the floral arrangements for the ceremony including the beautiful chuppah.  We were all treated to a beautiful sunset as the ceremony concluded.   I will follow this post with Part III which will highlight their beautiful reception!

I am excited to share the first installment of images from the Chailee Mann-Stadt and William Moss wedding held at The  Country Club of Asheville on August 13, 2011.  I had the benefit of getting to meet the families the night before at the rehearsal at the Inn on Biltmore hosted by William’s parents.  This was followed the next day by an absolutely beautiful summer day at The Country Club of Asheville.  Chailee was drawn to the venue “because of its stunning mountain views, paired with a beautiful facility for the reception.  The CCA was particularly accessible for our guests with limited mobility, which was another important consideration for us.”

Rochelle Reich,  Community Life and Events Director at the Asheville Jewish Community Center,  served as the wedding coordinator.  Although Rochelle does not currently promote her services online here is a little summary of her experience level:

“Rochelle Reich has over 20 years of event planning experience, including 14 years planning weddings at such places as the Parker House Hotel and Wang Center in Boston, MA and Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC.  In 2007, Rochelle began her own business as a ‘day of’ wedding coordinator and consultant in addition to her full time jobs in community non-profit work and as a mother of two. Rochelle is the recipient of the 2007 national “Wedding of the Year” award presented by the National Association of Catering Executives.  Rochelle loves and truly enjoys working with wedding couples and their families to ensure that you truly enjoy the day you so carefully planned and invested in. 828-337-6826“.

I want to thank Zaire Kacz who joined me as a second photographer on this wedding.  Due to the large nature of the wedding, the proximity of the ceremony to sunset, and the exquisite detail provided by Blossoms of Biltmore Park, the bride and groom wanted to ensure complete photographic coverage of the wedding.  Zaire was outstanding and I really appreciated her creativity and energy throughout the day!

As promised, here is the second set of  images from Melissa Hunsucker and Todd Weakley’s DIY wedding held at Hidden River Events in Swannanoa, NC  back on July 30, 2011.   Although it felt like one of the hottest days I’ve ever experienced photographing a wedding (I’ve done a few in Charlotte, NC that were humid scorchers) everyone and everything seemed to hold up perfectly throughout the day.

Two of Todd and Melissa’s wedding vendors were Lady Luck Flower Farm and Short Street Cakes.  According to Todd and Melissa, “the gorgeous flowers from Lady Luck [Flower Farm] and the beautiful cakes from Short Street go impeccably well together.  Those artists defintely have a comparable style to our own.”    Lady Luck designed the arbor, wedding bouquet and other wedding party designs, table arrangements, deer antlers and skull.  Short Street Cakes did the cake buffet which included lemon blueberry, Ashevelvet, chocolate ganache, and carrot cake.

I was recommended to Todd and Melissa by Tamara Heston of Bele Soiree Events.  According to Todd and Melissa she “thought [that I] would be interested in the “non-traditional” nature of our aesthetic and community.  She was right on the money.  From our first phone conversation I felt that you immediately understood where we were coming from — we wanted to capture the spirit of the event, not the endless collection of poses that so much wedding photography can become.”  I think that “spirit” they refer to is reflected in these images of Melissa and Todd, their family and friends and I think the surroundings of Hidden River Events really allows that spirit to unfold naturally.

Again thank you to all the great vendors who contributed to this wonderful wedding.  And congratulations again to Melissa and Todd!   Cheers!

I am excited to share this first set of  images from Melissa Hunsucker and Todd Weakley’s DIY wedding held at Hidden River Events in Swannanoa, NC  back on July 30, 2011.  Surrounding themselves with their “artistic-minded friends and family”, and using local vendors that reflected their personal style, Melissa and Todd orchestrated what I would call an authentic Asheville wedding on a tight budget.  They are a beautiful couple with a great group of friends and family and were so easy to work with throughout their wedding day.

The venue, Hidden River Events is an 18-acre farm 10 minutes from Asheville with a view of the Blue Ridge Mountains as the backdrop.  It is owned and operated by Jeanne Sommer, a full-time Professor of Religious Studies at Warren Wilson College, who served as the officiant at their ceremony.  Melissa and Todd found her “welcoming”, “accommodating,” and “sensitive to [their] non-traditional ceremony requests.”

Both Melissa and Todd fly-fish together so the fact that a river runs along the ceremony site was an added bonus.  Hidden River Events was affordable and included housing for some of the guests as well as many of the basics (i.e. tables, dance floor, candle holders, etc.),  And to top it off, it included a horse and carriage which Todd thought might be “embarrassing and cheesy but ended up being fun and a convenient getaway between the ceremony and reception”.

Melissa looked absolutely fabulous in the custom-made dress that her mom made for her.  And her “old trusty boots” finished the wardrobe perfectly especially given the surroundings.   Her bouquet and all the  flowers were done by Katie at Lady Luck Flower Farm.

Without further ado, here is Part I.  Check out Part II on Monday.

Congratulations, Melissa and Todd!

When professional dancer Kathy Meyers-Leiner told me that the talented R. Brooke Priddy of  Ship to Shore Clothiers was designing her wedding dress I was excited to say the least.  I couldn’t wait to see what kind of wedding dress Brooke would design for a dancer.  Even without seeing the dress my mind instantly churned out images of Kathy maneuvering and dancing along water’s edge, in a deep forest, surrounded by fall color .  Of course, it wasn’t so hard to conjure up these images since I had photographed Kathy earlier this year performing a dance at {Re}Happening at Camp Rockmont at Lake Eden in Black Mountain, NC.

So a week and a half before Kathy’s wedding we met on a beautiful October late afternoon at Camp Rockmont on Lake Eden. Deja vu!    Kathy looked stunning in her custom Ship to Shore wedding dress and what we were able to capture over the next couple of hours totally exceeded my expectations.  The dress seemed so natural on her.  It allowed for freedom of movement.  But it also had so many layers to it and  wonderful attention to detail.   Hopefully this is reflected in the images shown here.

I want to thank Kathy for really putting so much creative energy into this portrait session.  It was a privilege photographing a professional dancer wearing a custom-made Brooke Priddy wedding dress!  And I also want to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Kathy…this little blog post is a little birthday present for you!!!  Congratulations again on your recent wedding and I can’t wait to share those images on my blog very soon!

I had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of Rachel Mertz and Daniel King at the Biltmore Estate on June 20, 2009.  It has been previously featured on Style Me Pretty’s Little Black Book blog (http://www.stylemepretty.com/2009/09/22/north-carolina-wedding-at-the-biltmore/).   SMP did a great job of highlighting a lot of the details from their wedding.  But I’ve been meaning to revisit this wedding on my blog in an effort to emphasize the talented team of photographers (and friends)  I was able to bring together for Rachel and Dan’s wedding and to give credit to some of talented wedding vendors whose efforts may not have been recognized in SMP’s write-up.

I had an amazing crew for the eight hours or so that we shot the day of the wedding.   Kelly Cubbin was my associate shooter, and Jenny Trest and Daniel Taylor assisted us and shot a bit when time permitted.  Kelly got her start as wedding photographer in Chicago working with wedding photographer,  Emily Dewan.  When not behind the camera,  she also does marketing for my good friend Steven McBride and  owns Appalachian Craft Brewery with her husband Andy.  If you need beer for your wedding reception or rehearsal dinner she would be the perfect person to contact.   Daniel is a photographer, McBride’s  first assistant and “studio” manager,  and a Photoshop guru.  He has assisted me and a variety of other photographers over the years.  Jenny is a wonderful photographer specializing in pet photography (especially dogs) and also works as a freelance assistant and is now getting her nursing degree while still doing photography on the side!  Go Jenny!  Cory Barlow, my regular assistant, was out of town the weekend of the wedding, but upon his return was  invaluable in the post-production of the final images.  If you know of anyone in the need of assistance with digital workflow, digital retouching, photo assisting on assignments, someone to build you a computer from bare bones, or are in the market for some incredible fine-art photography feel free to contact him directly or visit his website.  You would be hard-pressed to find such great people to surround yourself with.  Just ask Rachel and Dan!

For the majority of the weddings I shoot I am the exclusive photographer and usually bring one assistant who helps me with lighting, dowloading and managing image files, and every once in awhile provides additional photography.   But there are times when my wedding clients want two photographers to capture their wedding day.  Usually this is requested because of the size and scope of the wedding or because of the logistics of where the bride and groom are getting ready or where they need to be at different times. This was the case with Rachel and Dan.  I was able to provide two photographers and two assistants.    I started photographing Rachel and her contingent at the Residences at Biltmore while Kelly met the guys at a different hotel, stopping in Biltmore Village at one of the fanciest McDonald’s you are likely to see (this McDonald’s has a grand piano and tapestries on the wall), before heading onto the Estate.  When I arrived at the hotel, Scott Thompson, make-up artist extraordinaire and all-around great guy (check out his new shop called MakeUp in the Grove Arcade and Sante, a  wine bar that he co-owns with some other great folks) was already busy at work!  His work speaks for itself.

Nicole Riley, wedding coordinator at Verge Events and Nicole Bloom, Senior Catering Sales Manager at the Biltmore Estate, did an amazing job bringing all the design elements together for both the ceremony and  the reception at Deerpark.  They were exceptionally organized and professional as their wedding coordinators.  I know that Rachel and Dan were so grateful that Nicole Riley encouraged them to get away during the cocktail hour to get shots in front of the Biltmore House.  As strange as it may sound, even though I was there snapping away with my camera, the mini-portrait session during the cocktail hour afforded them time to be with one another and catch a breather before rejoining the guests for the reception back at Deerpark.   I think their personalities and love for one another really shine in those photos!

Audrey Kirsch and her team from Blossoms at Biltmore Park created exquisite bouquets, flower arrangements, table arrangements, and other décor details.  Green Kangaroo provided the stationery that was used on all the tables (table cards, menu, invitations, etc.).  Again, you can see more samples of the flowers and stationery on the SMP Little Black Book blog that I provided a link to earlier.

If I’ve overlooked the efforts of other vendors please don’t hesitate to email me and I’ll give you a shout out!

Again, thanks to everyone!  If you are planning a large, complex wedding at the Biltmore Estate or anywhere else for that matter, be assured that I have the experience, the resources, and the “team” to get the best images possible at your wedding!

Bryan Clendenin and Stacy Claude play in a bluegrass band based in Asheville, NC called Dehlia Low and I was lucky enough to catch one of their shows in Gerton, NC over the summer of 2009.  They played in the Gerton Community Center and was the ideal place to hear some awesome bluegrass music on a beautiful summer night with the smell of barbeque in the air and children running around outside.  If you have a chance to see Dehlia Low I highly recommend doing so.    A friend of theirs who ended up officiating the ceremony announced that evening that Bryan and Stacy were going to tie the knot in a couple of months.  On my way out I handed them one of my business cards and discovered they had not yet secured the services of a wedding photographer.  Lucky me!

Bryan and Stacy chose The Farm in Candler for their wedding ceremony and reception venue.  I have photographed several weddings there and this was yet again another great wedding with wonderful families and friends and a rustic setting.  I was very impressed with the new cabins that they have built on the premises that the wedding party can rent.  Very nice details throughout.   Definitely check them out if you get a chance.  The Farm is only ten minutes from downtown Asheville.  So you can enjoy a rustic wedding experience and yet be well within striking distance to  Asheville’s vibrant arts, music, and restaurant scene as well.

I just wanted to show a few of my favorite images from their wedding.  It was a beautiful day for a wedding and they added a lot of personal touches.

I attended the WNC Magazine Bridal Party at the Doubletree Biltmore Hotel on the night of February 5th, 2010.  I took some photos during the fashion show and wanted to highlight Asheville’s very own Brooke Priddy, dressmaker and designer and owner of Ship to Shore Clothier and Beth Hohensee, floral designer and owner of Studio Flora Diva in the historic Grove Arcade in downtown Asheville.

Brooke provided a beautiful lace wedding dress for the fashion show and it was worn by model Morgan Purdy who also works with Brooke at Ship to Shore.  The dress is a handmade wedding gown in crotchet lace and teastained silks and retails for $3,800.

Brooke was also kind enough to lend two other dresses to my wife, Muriel and my good friend Jesse Kitt who wore them as they handed out some of my promotional material to prospective brides at the Party.  They were all stunning!

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of doing a photo shoot for Beth Hohensee at Studio Flora Diva.  Thanks go out to  E. Scott Thompson of MakeUp for doing makeup as well as the graphic design for Beth’s ads.  Lalena Settlemyre did an amazing job with hair.  And our models (Gretchen, Courtney, Brandon, Ben, Sydney, and Spencer) were professional and a great deal of fun to work with.  I absolutely love these collaborations.  I hope you enjoy these layouts that Scott did for Studio Flora Diva.  I’ll follow this post with some more images that I shot for myself.

I traveled to The Cliffs at Glassy near Travelers Rest, S.C. on April 17, 2010 to photograph the wedding of Dr. David Kallman and Leanne Sagedy.   I wanted to share a few of my favorite images from their beautiful wedding day.  Enjoy!

I am pleased to announce that a wedding I photographed at the Biltmore Estate will be featured in the 2011 Spring/Summer issue of The Knot Weddings!  Thanks to all the great wedding vendors who contributed their talents to make Rachel King and Dan Mertz’s wedding so successful!  You can find more of their images here on my blog.  Cheers!

I wanted to share these images that I captured at the wedding of Joy Summers and Derek McCaw at the Farm at Old Edwards Inn in Highlands, NC.   Most of the design elements were conceived by Joy, who is an event planner herself in the Raleigh, NC area.  Becca Stefan and Melissa Porter of Asheville Event Co. helped Joy realize her vision.   The final details were exquisite and I think these images attest to that fact.  Thanks to everyone who contributed to such an awesome day…including Mother Nature who provided perfect weather for a wedding day!

The first issue of Sophie Magazine’s “I Do!” Wedding Guide came out last week and I was excited that editor JeanAnn Taylor chose my image of Abby and Kyle at the Biltmore Estate as the cover shot!  I also have some other images that made it in the magazine as well.  It’s a beautiful first issue and chock full of useful information for prospective brides in the Asheville area.  You can find it throughout town at places where you can find other local publications like Sophie Magazine (which publishes “I Do!”) , Verve, The Laurel of Asheville and others!

Here are the page spreads from the magazine!

JeanAnn Taylor, editor of "I Do!" magazine and Sophie Magazine, asked me if I had any images of brides roasting marshmallows at a campfire. Having shot weddings in the Asheville area for almost 14 years I have shot my share of rustically elegant/elegantly rustic weddings with campfires! This wedding was shot at the picturesque Claxton Farm in Weaverville, NC just north of Asheville by about 10 minutes. Image by Michael Oppenheim Photography.

Thanks to all my wedding clients who appear in this magazine and a big thank you and congratulations to JeanAnn Taylor and the rest of the staff at Sophie Magazine on creating such a great first issue of “I Do!” Magazine.

I wanted to share some of my favorite images from Rachel Farley and Jonathon Henin’s wedding I photographed last summer at the Ballantyne Hotel in Charlotte, North Carolina.   I originally met Rachel and Jonathon at the Dripolator here in Asheville when they were considering venues for their wedding in my neck of the woods.  When the dust settled, however, they chose the Ballantyne  and inquired whether I could make the trip to Charlotte for their wedding.   Having shot weddings and commercial assignments throughout the United States it was very easy to make the relatively quick drive to Charlotte.  As much as I love Asheville, I also love immersing myself in a new city and a new venue.   It keeps my eye sharp and the creative juices flowing.  And it didn’t hurt to have two subjects in Rachel and Jonathon who were not only very comfortable in front of my camera, but who clearly have a ton of love for one another.

I hope you enjoy these images.

For those of you who might be planning an Autumn wedding in Asheville I thought you might enjoy these images taken last October at the Biltmore Estate.   Kristin Dunphy and Rishi Patel were married at Diana at Biltmore which is perched on a grassy hill that overlooks the Biltmore House and Blue Ridge Mountains.  It was a pleasure working with Kristin and Rishi and their wonderful family and friends.  These are some of my favorite images of Kristin getting ready with her family and friends at the Inn on Biltmore wedding, as well as some detail shots.  I will be following up with Parts II and III over  the next couple of days.

Happy 4th of July!  In celebration of the 4th I wanted to fast forward through Kristin and Rishi’s wedding day, ignoring chronological order, and show you some spectacular fireworks images from their wedding.  Never mind the fact that this wedding was held in October of last year!  It’s the 4th of July for goodness sakes.  Rishi, standing in front of the Diana statue made a beautiful toast to his new wife, Kristin and surprised her (and the guests) with a stunning fireworks display in front of the Biltmore House that added quite a romantic and dramatic touch to the night’s festivities.  These are a few of my favorite images from the fireworks show!

This is Part III of Kristin and Rishi’s wedding from the Diana at Biltmore Estate in October 2010.  The beautiful flowers were done by Liz Wright of the Purple Iris.  You can click on each individual thumbnail to see larger versions.  This was truly a fantastic Autumn wedding at the Biltmore and one of my favorite times of the year here in Asheville for weddings.  And the Diana is such a romantic and storybook setting as you can no doubt see!

These are the final images from Kristin and Rishi’s Wedding at the Diana venue on the Biltmore Estate from October 2010.  Again a big thanks goes out to Tamara Heston of Belle Soiree and Maura Scarmack of the Biltmore Estate for putting together such a fabulous wedding.   As you can tell from some of the dance shots everyone thoroughly enjoyed the Asheville band, A Social Function.  I’ve done plenty of weddings with these guys and everyone always has a great time!    And, of course, a big thank you to Kristin and Rishi (and their families) for being so fun to photograph.  I feel privileged that they chose me to capture their special day and hope they will enjoy the images for years to come!

In closing I want to share a little blurb that Rishi wrote:

“Kristin and I first met in high school in Fort Myers, FL. I was a senior and she was afreshman. We started out being friends however my crush on her grew stronger and stronger. We never dated but stayed good friends throughout college until we lost touch with each other.  Ten years had past and our paths crossed again. I knew from there thatthis time I wouldn’t let her go. I was able to charm her and we started dating. After 2 years we were married. Kristin and I wrote our own vows which we shared with everyone at our wedding letting them know our history and the road we each took to have our paths cross years later.

Our first song we ever danced to was Michael Jackson’s “The Way You Make Me Feel.” I wanted to do something amazing for Kristin for our wedding day. I was able to get the fireworks and surprise her with the look a husband can never forget. I planned a speech to thank everyone for sharing this wonderful day with us. I also thanked my parents and my future parent-in-laws for being the best parents we could have. I turned to her and told her how happy I was being with her and how amazing she made me feel.  At that moment, the song “The Way You Make Me Feel” starting playing with the fireworks starting in the background. A look a husband can never forgot…Beautiful!

There were so many unique details and special memories from our friends and family that it is difficult to only share a few!”

And this was something that Kristin’s mom shared with me:   “I haven’t had a chance to thank you for helping to make Kristin and Rishi’s wedding special.  You captured some amazing photos that we will cherish for a lifetime.”

Looking over my blog posts from the last year I realized that I forgot to let people know that one of my Homewood weddings was featured on Style Me Pretty’s Little Black Book blog last year.  And since I’ve had a few inquiries lately and a wedding coming up in October I thought I’d provide a link to their post:

Enjoy!  I’ve got a new wedding that I’m really looking forward to sharing that I shot at Lioncrest at the Biltmore Estate so stay tuned.

Wow!  It’s been a busy summer for me with both weddings and commercial work…which means I’ve fallen behind on my blog posts.  But I’m excited to finally share these images from Karen Warburton and Alden Doyle’s wedding at Liocrest located on the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC.   I had the pleasure of working with Tamara Heston of Belle Soiree Events and the Biltmore’s Maura Scarmack.  They are a great team and I always enjoy working with them.  Karen and Alden had family and friends come from all over the country and the world (several in their wedding party made the trip all the way from Hong Kong!).   The beautiful bridal bouquet and other floral arrangements were done by Liz Wright of the Purple Iris.  Thanks to everyone for their contributions to this beautiful wedding and congratulations to Karen and Alden on their marriage!  Enjoy the images!

Ukah-Mentor Wedding 2011

After our portrait session at the Grove Park Inn with the bridal party and family members we hopped the trolley back to the Grand Bohemian.  When I asked Bethani about the main considerations that went into planning her wedding in terms or design and aesthetic she replied, “We wanted the wedding to be an elegant, yet simple affair that adhered to classic traditions. Joel is a fan of a classic minimalist aesthetic while Bethani loves anything that sparkles. We were able to merge the two styles beautifully. ”  And when I asked Bethani why she chose this particular venue for her wedding and reception she stated, ”We chose The Grand Bohemian because we wanted a small intimate setting where we would feel close to our guests. Also, since our families and friends were traveling from all over the Eastern seaboard, we wanted a site with a central location. The Grand Bohemian had an old world, classic ambiance that suited our vision for our wedding setting.”  Hopefully these images from her ceremony and reception really highlight those sentiments.

I also wanted to share some kind words that Bethani expressed about her experience working with me:

“When choosing your photographer we believe it is important to get a feel for the main photographer’s personality as well as his shooting style. We were very happy with Michael Oppenheim Photography!  Michael’s energy level was infectious and he kept a cool head throughout the day. He also impressed our guests because he was thorough, yet easy going and engaging.  He captured our day as it happened and you can actually see the energy in the room through the photos.  Simply put, Michael provided the highest quality service of all our wedding vendors.”

I regard it as a privilege to have been entrusted to capture these once-in-a-lifetime moments for Bethani and Joel and their families.  Congratulations…it was a real pleausure working with you both and meeting your families.  Again, a special thank you to Audrey Goforth for helping me out as a second shooter and to Daniel Taylor for his assistance.  And a big shout out to Shay Brown Events and her staff for all their hard work on this exquisite wedding.  I also wanted to give credit and provide links  to the following vendors whose work contributed to these images.  Thanks again everyone!

I am very excited to share these images from Bethani  and Joel’s  wedding at the luxurious Grand Bohemian Hotel in Asheville, NC in July 2011.  I had the pleasure of getting to know Bethani and Joel earlier in the spring when they came to Asheville with Bethani’s mom, Sandra, to work on their wedding plans and to do an engagement portrait downtown, at the North Carolina Arboretum,  and on the Blue Ridge Parkway.  Bethani (who lives and works in NYC), Joel (who lives in and works in Washington, DC), and Sandra (who lives in Atlanta), were able to pull off a very elegant destination wedding thanks to the incomparable Shay Brown and her staff at Shay Brown Events as well as Connor Boyle of the Grand Bohemian.  It was truly a huge creative team effort!

After photographing Bethani and Joel getting ready we jumped on the Asheville Trolley and made our way up to the Grove Park Inn for group shots of the bridal party and family.  Sandra really wanted a view of the mountains and I thought the wedding party would enjoy not only the mountain views from the terrace overlooking the city of Asheville, but also the majestic beauty of the Inn itself.  Thanks to the Grove Park Inn for letting us shoot there!

A big “Thank You!” goes out  to the very talented Audrey Goforth (www.goforthphoto.com) who agreed to be a second photographer for me and did an expectedly amazing job. She stayed behind at the Grand Bohemian to get beautiful detail shots and candids of guests arriving while we were at the Grove Park Inn doing the group shots.  I also had her positioned behind the bride and groom (out of view from the guests) where she could get some nice shots during the ceremony.  She did not disappoint and captured some really beautiful moments!   Also, thank you to my assistant for the day, Daniel Taylor, who also manned the photobooth that we constructed using a Drop It Modern backdrop.  You can view some of those images in Part II.
